Ardsheal is described as a brother to the Laird of Appin in a letter by Campbell of Glenorchy to his kinsman, the Earl of Argyll, dated 27 April 1618, in which he comments on John’s recent killing of John Abrach of Glentoun.
He m. Mary, daughter of Ranald MacDonnell of Keppoch.
