He acquired the lands of Graemesay from his brother, Patrick Stewart, Earl of Orkney. He d. by 8 July 1628 and had issue,
1. Henry Stewart, 2nd of Graemesay.
2. Patrick Stewart,
3. John Stewart, 1st of Bigton,
4. Barbara Stewart, m. James Sinclair of Quendale, (he d. on 21 September 1647),
and had issue.
5. Martha Stewart, m. George Sinclair of Craigends.
6. Margaret Stewart, m. Francis Moodie of Melsetter.
