WALTER Stewart
of Fife
WALTER OF FIFE, the second son of MURDOCH, Duke of Albany ,was betrothed, firstly, to his cousin Euphemia, only
child of David Stewart, Earl of Strathearn, (Dispensation dated 5 September 1415) although this appears to have not been fulfilled. He was also betrothed to Janet, daughter of Sir Robert Erskine of Erskine, (Dispensation dated 27
May 1421), and this marriage appears to have taken place. On the return of James I to Scotland after his long captivity in England, he was apprehended with other members of his immediate family and imprisoned in the Bass Rock. He was tried at Stirling on 24 May 1425 and being condemned to death, he was executed with his father, his brother Alexander and his aged grandfather, the Earl of Lennox, three days later. He was father of :
(a) ANDREW STEWART, 1ST LORD AVENDALE .
(b) Arthur. He was a substitute heir in the lands of Avandale on 18 April 1479 and died without male issue before October 1488. He was the father of,

(c) WALTER, of Morphie
(d) Robert Stewart
(e)Alexander Stewart
(f)John Stewart of Johnston. He had issue.
(g)Marion Stewart m. by 4 October 1440, to Sir Colin Campbell, 1st of Glenorchy, (he survived her and m. secondly, to Jean, Sir William Borthwick of that Ilk, from whom he was divorced ; thirdly, to Janet, eldest daughter and coheiress of Sir John Stewart, of Innermeath and Lorn, fourthly, Margaret, daughter of Robert Robertson, of Strowan, and fifthly, to Margaret, daughter of Luke Stirling, of Keir. He d. on 26 September 1475),
