JAMES VI. and I Stuart
King of Scotland and England

Arms: of King James VI. on Seal. - Scotland. SUPPORTERS: Two lions rampant CREST as before. MOTTO in 1578, "Nemo_me_impune_ lacesset" the last word being altered to lacessit in 1595. When he became King of England he crowned the unicorn Supporters and gorged them with crowns composed of fleurs-de-lis and crosses patty He also used-1 and 4. Scotland. 2. France and England, quarterly. 3. Ireland. SUPPORTERS: Dexter, A unicorn as above; Sinister, A lion rampant imperially crowned gold Note.-For use in England the Arms were arranged differently, England taking the post of honour.-1 and 4. France and England, quarterly. 2. Scotland. 3. Ireland, with the English CREST and MOTTO, and the English SUPPORTER on the dexter side. .
KING JAMES VI. and I. was born 1566, and became king on his mother´s abdication in 1567. On the death of Queen Elizabeth in 1603 he also succeeded to the throne of England.
He died 1625.
In 1589 he married Anna, daughter of King Frederick II. of Denmark and Norway.
They had
(1) Henry Frederick, born 1594; died 1612.
(2) Charles, who succeeded CHARLES I, King of Scotland and England.
(3) Robert, born and died 1602.
(4)Elizabeth Stewart, b. on 19 August 15963 and m. at London, on 14 February 1613, to Frederick, Elector Palatine and King of Bohemia. She d. at London, on 13 February 1662, having had issue.
(5) Margaret Stewart, b. at Dalkeith castle, on 24 December 1598 and d. in infancy.
(6) Mary Stewart, b. at Greenwich, on 8 April 1605 and d. on 26 September 1607, being buried in Westminster Abbey.
(7) Sophia Stewart, b. at Greenwich, on 22 June 1606 and d. the following day. She was buried in Westminster Abbey.
