JAMES II Stewart
King of Scotland

KING JAMES II., known from a birthmark as "James_of_the_Fiery_ Face_" was born 1430. He was killed by the bursting of a cannon, The Lion at the siege of Roxburgh Castle in 1460. The king married in 1449 Marie, only daughter of Arnold, Duke of Gueldres. By her he had issue
(1) JAMES III, King of Scotland, who succeeded.
(2) Alexander Stewart, Duke of Albany. He was killed at a Tournament at Paris in 1485 from a splinter of a lance “which
strocke him in the face´. He m. firstly, Catherine, daughter of William Sinclair, 3rd Earl of Orkney and Caithness, from whom he was divorced on 2 March 1477/8, for being within forbidden degrees of consanguinity. They had issue. Secondly, on 16 January 1480, to Anne de la Tour, third daughter of Bertrand, Comte d’Auvergne.
(3) David, Earl of Moray who died as a child before 18 July 1457.
(4) John, created about 1458 EARL OF MAR AND GARIOCH, On a charge of treason his brother, King James III., caused him to be put in prison in 1479/80 and died or was murdered, either on 9 July 1479 or possibly in 1480
(5)Mary Stewart, Countess of Arran, married Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran (first). Their children were -
1. James, 2nd Lord Boyd (killed in 1484)
2.Margaret or Grizelda (b 1468/73 - d. after 1516. She was married to Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Forbes (d. by 1491). She married secondly, David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassilis (d.1513 at Flodden)
James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton (second), after her first marriage to Arran was declared null and void probably Her daughter, Elizabeth by this marriage married Matthew, 2nd Earl of Lennox - their descendants included James VI and I.
6. Margaret Stewart, m. William, 3rd Lord Crichton, (he was involved in the plot of his brothers-in-law Albany and Mar against James III. for which he was forfeited by Parliament on 24 February 1484), and had issue
The king had also a illegitimate son
(e) JAMES, of Sticks and Ballechin, ancestor of the Stewarts of Ballechin.
Arms: of King James II. on Privy Seal, 1442.-Scotland. SUPPORTERS: Two lions rampant guardant. The sinister lion has a saltire on the haunch
