JAMES I Stewart
King of Scotland

KING JAMES I., born 1394, was a prisoner in England from 1406 till 1424. In 1437 he was murdered at Perth, chiefly by the contrivance of his uncle, Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl. His wife was Joan Beaufort, daughter of John, first Earl of Somerset, whom he married about 1424. They had twin sons, born 1430, of whom :-
(1) Alexander died in infancy; and
(2) JAMES II, King of Scotland who succeeded to the Throne.

(3)Margaret Stewart (1424 – 16 August 1445), married the Dauphin Louis, future Louis XI of France, at Tours, 24 June 1436.
(4)Isabella Stewart (1426 – 1499), married Francis I, Duke of Brittany, on 30 October 1442.
(5)Joan/Janet Stewart (c. 1428 – aft. 16 October 1486); she was mute. Married or or at least became betrothed to James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Angus, Married before 15 May 1459 to James Douglas, 1st Earl of Morton., They had issue.
(6)Eleanor Stewart (1433 – 20 November 1480), married Sigismund, Archduke of Austria, about 12/24 February 1449.
(7)Mary Stewart, Countess of Buchan (1434/35–20 March 1465), married Wolfert VI of Borselen in 1444.
(8Annabella Stewart, m. firstly, at Stirling, on 14 December 1447, to Louis,Count of Geneva, son of Louis, Duke of Savoy, this marriage was annulled without being consummated and she was sent home with 25,000 Crowns in 1458. She m. secondly by 1 March, 1460, George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly, when they had a charter from his father for the lands of Aboyne.She divorced him on 24 July 1471.
The widowed queen afterwards married JAMES, Black Knight of Lorn, known as "The_Black_Knight_of_Lorn." .
