This little book might be described as a 'Brief History of the Stewarts'. It is a very clear and well-written guide to the rise of the Stewart families and their emergence in the Highlands of Scotland, particularly in their three great territories of Appin, Atholl and Balquhidder. Other Highland families get a look in too. It is authoritative and should be read by anyone interested in Stewarts as it cuts through the verbiage of longer accounts to give the essential information.

Anyone who remembers 'Jock Stewart', the late author, will not be surprised to find that the book is not devoid of humour and some good stories.
