CASTLE STUART (2:479-483)Petty Parish, Inverness-shireRecently restored to its former glory
The original portion of Castle Stuart (not to be confused with Castle Stewart in Wigtownshire), was built at the end of the Reign of James VI, during the five years from 1621 to 1625. Close to the site of the Battle of Culloden, it was one of the keeps of the Earl of Moray, whose main residence and stronghold was at Darnaway Castle in Morayshire. The castle has recently been lovingly restored by the present laird, Charles Stuart, a member of The Stewart Society and he entertains paying guests by prior appointment. There are eight bedrooms available, named after the clans who fought for Prince Charles Edward Stuart at nearby Culloden, and are decorated in their individual tartans.
